The Rev. CB Baker
Prior
to coming to Saint Luke's, Rev. CB Baker was Dean of St. Mary’s
Episcopal Cathedral in Memphis. Rev. Baker was past president of
the Memphis Ministers Association, Convener of
Call to Renewal Memphis and Convener of
Jubilee 2000 of Memphis. Rev. Baker is a co-founder of the
Memphis School of Servant Leadership. He has worked and spoken
locally, regionally, nationally and internationally on issues of
justice, peace and reconciliation. He was a tireless worker in
the Memphis community of behalf of the poor and marginalized and is a
strong proponent of looking beyond differences and finding common
ground among different races, cultures and faiths. Rev. Baker is
a member of the steering committee of Churches Uniting in Christ, the
initiator of Memphis Multi-Faith Aid, which supplied medical supplies
to Afghanistan after the United States invasion following September 11,
2001. Rev. Baker was the leading voice in Memphis in an attempt
to bring Christians, Jews and Muslims together to work toward peace in
the Middle East. Rev. Baker is the recipient of the Humanitarian
Award from the National Council of Community and Justice
(NCCJ). The Rev. is a member of the North American Regional
Council of St. George’s College, Jerusalem. Rev. Baker was among
Christian leaders from the United States invited to Israel/Palestine in
October 2005 to help reconcile religious tensions both in the Middle
East and the United States. He is also a member of the Standing
Commission on Ecumenical and Interreligious Relations for the Episcopal
Church in the United States.
