Acolytes

Acolytes

What do Acolytes do in the Episcopal Church?

The work of an Acolyte has ancient roots. "Acolyte" means an attendant or follower. Samuel is one of the earliest examples of an assistant to a priest. An Acolyte's job is to assist the Celebrant (the priest in charge of a worship service) and enhance the worship service to help glorify God.

Our Acolyte Roles

  • Cross Bearer (Crucifer) carries the cross in the procession
  • Torch Bearers carry lighted torches in procession, including the Gospel procession

Becoming an Acolyte is a great way to get involved and learn more about Episcopal Worship. Acolytes are scheduled for regular services each Sunday.
