Community Outreach

The mission of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Outreach is to love and serve others as Jesus commands us in Matthew 25: 35-40:

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me… Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters

of mine, you did for me.”

In our Baptismal Covenant, two of the things we promise are “to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves”and “to strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being”.

By living into our Mission Statement we have been provided many opportunities to serve.  Our location, as a downtown church, brings many homeless and underserved neighbors right to our doors. Daily, we are blessed with the opportunity to engage, discern and provide what we can to fulfill these needs. Our goal is to provide some of the basic needs that each of God’s children should have- food, clothing, shelter and to know they are loved by God.

Over the years, we grew from a closet sized Food Pantry which transitioned into support of The Jackson House Feeding program. As many other organizations provided meals, we created our Snack Pack Program. As more needs were discerned, the Outreach Ministry branched out in an effort to address those needs.

Currently, we continue the Snack Pac Program along with the Shower Ministry, Utility & Rent Assistance Programs as funds are available. We are actively involved with organizing and working with the City and many other non-profits to provide Warming Shelters and Cooling Shelters as needed for our underserved neighbors. Other organizations that we actively support and partner with include Project HOPE Food Bank, Jackson House Lunch Program and Christmas Toy Drive, Cooperative Christian Ministries and Clinic (CCMC), Ouachita Behavioral Health and Wellness, Salvation Army, Encounter Church, Samaritan Ministries, Juvenile Court Foster Families Thanksgiving Baskets and Christmas Gifts, and Full Circle Missions (Lakeview Assembly of God).
